Features Privacy Terms Download on App Store

Privacy Policy

Riptap respects your privacy and collects as little as possible. This policy explains what Riptap version 3.0 and later stores on your device, what it shares with the services it uses, and the choices you have. It also covers this website. If you use an older version of the app, see "Earlier versions" below.

Who we are

In this policy, "Riptap", "we" and "us" mean the developer of the Riptap game. If you have a question or request about your privacy, email us at support@riptap.app.

In short

Information stored on your device

Riptap stores the following on your device so the game, your progress and your settings work:

This information stays on your device and is not sent to us. Scores you submit to Game Center are the exception (see below). Riptap has no servers of its own and makes no network connections of its own; the only data that leaves your device goes through the Apple and Google services described in this policy.

If you back up your device, for example with iCloud Backup, this data may be included in the backup, which Apple handles under its own terms. Riptap has no in-app reset, and we can't recover your progress because we never receive it. Deleting the app removes most of its data from your device.

Game Center

If you sign in to Apple Game Center (Riptap offers this after the tutorial), your scores are submitted to Riptap's three Game Center leaderboards: Classic (which also receives your Daily Challenge scores), Expert and Timed Sprint. Weekly Event runs are never submitted. If your Classic best on your device is higher than the one on Game Center, Riptap may submit it again.

Your Game Center name and scores can be seen by other players, and Riptap shows other players' names and scores in its rankings. Riptap only displays this information while you view it and doesn't save it.

The Friends ranking uses your Game Center friends list. Riptap asks for access only when you tap to see your friends' scores, and iOS lets you allow or deny it. Riptap uses the list only to show your friends' scores and doesn't store any information about your friends.

Game Center is provided by Apple and is subject to Apple's own terms and privacy practices. See Game Center & Privacy.

Optional usage analytics (Firebase Analytics)

Usage analytics is off by default, everywhere in the world. If you turn on Share usage analytics, Riptap uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the game is played so we can improve it. Riptap sends events such as:

Riptap doesn't send a user ID, your name or any profile details with these events. Firebase also records standard events such as first open, sessions, screens viewed and app updates, and basic technical information such as app version, device model, operating system version and approximate country.

Usage analytics is used only to measure and improve Riptap. Riptap configures Firebase Analytics with advertising storage, advertising use of your data and ad personalisation always denied, and it doesn't collect your device's vendor identifier (IDFV). Riptap doesn't use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) for analytics. If you allow tracking, the Firebase Analytics software included in the app may still be able to read it.

Events from before you turn analytics on are not saved or sent later.

Optional crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)

Crash reports are also off by default and have their own setting, separate from usage analytics. If you turn on Share crash reports, Riptap uses Google Firebase Crashlytics to send a report when the app crashes, so we can find and fix problems. A report includes technical details about the crash, such as the code location, app version, device model, operating system version and a crash reporting installation identifier. Riptap doesn't add a user ID or other details about you.

Crash reports recorded on your device while the setting was off are deleted rather than sent.

Your analytics and crash report choices

On the home screen, after Google's advertising consent message and Apple's tracking request (if they are shown), Riptap shows a "Help improve Riptap" message where you can turn on usage analytics, crash reports, both or neither. You can change either setting at any time under Settings › Privacy. Saying no doesn't affect gameplay, Premium, Game Center or the rewarded Continue.

These choices are separate from Google's advertising consent and Apple's tracking permission. Agreeing to advertising or allowing tracking never turns on analytics or crash reports.

Turning a setting off doesn't erase information that was already sent to Firebase. To ask about it, contact us.

Riptap starts Firebase only after you turn on usage analytics or crash reports; if both are off, Firebase isn't started. Once started, Firebase stores data on your device, including a Firebase installation identifier, an Analytics app instance identifier and crash report files. Firebase uses the installation identifier to tell app installations apart; Riptap doesn't link it to your name or contact details. If you turn on crash reports but not usage analytics, starting Firebase can still create a local Analytics identifier, even though analytics collection stays off. Some Google software built into the app may save small technical status files on your device even when Firebase isn't started.

Ads

Riptap doesn't show banner ads or ads that interrupt gameplay. The only ads are optional rewarded videos: in Classic and Expert, when you run out of hearts after scoring at least 10 points, you can choose to watch an ad to continue your run, once per run. You can always choose "End Game" instead. If no ad is available, or your advertising or tracking choices don't allow an ad, you can continue for free. Daily Challenge, Weekly Event and Timed Sprint runs never offer a Continue.

Rewarded ads are provided by Google AdMob. Before any ad is requested, Riptap shows Google's consent message where required by law (for example in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland), so you can choose how your data is used for advertising. Your choices are stored on your device, and when required you can change them under Settings › Privacy Choices.

If you don't own Premium and your advertising choices permit ads, Riptap then shows Apple's App Tracking Transparency request once, asking whether Riptap may track you across other companies' apps and websites. Riptap starts Google AdMob and requests ads only if your advertising choices permit ads and you allow tracking. If you don't allow tracking, or tracking is restricted or unavailable, Riptap doesn't start AdMob or request ads, and you can continue for free. You can change your choice in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.

Riptap asks Google for non-personalised ads only. These are based on the current context, such as the app and your approximate location, rather than on your past activity. Riptap also turns off Google's publisher first-party identifier. To deliver ads, measure them, limit how often they're shown and prevent fraud, Google may collect information such as device identifiers (including the advertising identifier if you allow tracking), IP address, approximate location, diagnostics and your interactions with ads, as described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.

Riptap Premium and purchases

Riptap Premium is an optional one-time purchase. It includes no ads, one starting heart in Classic and Expert, the Golden Tide and Aurora themes, and keeping seasonal themes after their season. If you own Premium, Riptap doesn't show the tracking request or request ads, and when the app starts it waits to confirm your purchase before loading any ad.

Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Riptap doesn't receive or store your payment information; it only keeps a note on your device of whether you own Premium, which it checks with Apple. You can restore a purchase under Settings › Restore Purchases. See Apple's App Store & Privacy.

Daily Reminder

The Daily Reminder is off by default. If you turn it on, from Riptap's reminder message or in Settings, iOS asks for permission to show notifications. Riptap never asks at launch. Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device for 19:00 your local time, at most one a day, about your streak and the Daily Challenge. Nothing is sent to us or to any server to deliver them. You can turn them off in Riptap's Settings or in iOS Settings.

Sharing

When you tap Share or Challenge after a game, Riptap creates a score card image on your device from your results, with a short message, a link to Riptap on the App Store and a QR code for that link, which is also made on your device. It opens Apple's share sheet, and you decide whether and where to send it. Riptap doesn't access your photo library and only shares what you choose to share.

This website

riptap.app itself doesn't set cookies or use analytics or other trackers, and it doesn't load fonts, scripts or other files from other companies. Links to the App Store and to our social media pages take you to those services, which have their own privacy policies. The services that host and deliver the site (currently Cloudflare) may process technical information such as your IP address to deliver the pages.

Data retention

Information stored on your device remains until you change a setting, the app replaces it, or you delete the app. Information sent to Google is kept according to Google's policies and Firebase settings; see Privacy and security in Firebase and the Google Privacy Policy.

Children's privacy

Riptap is not directed specifically to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Because ads are provided by Google, Google may collect information as described above when an ad is shown, and Firebase may collect usage analytics or crash reports if those optional settings are turned on. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Riptap, please contact us and we will look into it.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict its use, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Because Riptap has no accounts and doesn't link analytics or crash reports to your name, most of your data is under your control on your device. For anything else, including information already sent to Google, contact us and we will help where we can. Information held by Apple or Google is also covered by their own privacy policies and tools.
